English Language Improvement Programme
It is undeniable that English has played an important role in different aspects of our daily life such as education, business and entertainment. According to Edinburgh School of English (2011), English is the fourth most widely spoken native language in the world, and in terms of number of speakers, it is the most spoken official language in the world. It is the primary language used in international affairs. The English language has official status even in nations where it is not the primary spoken language. English is indisputably the primary language of global trade and commerce. In many countries, most tourism authorities and other officials in contact with the public speak English to interact and engage with tourists and business people. In less than three years from now, the ten ASEAN nations will open their national borders, and Thai nationals will have to compete against English-speaking professionals and skilled workers from the other member states in local employment sectors. According to Takahashi (2012), the panel on “Thailand English language readiness and action plans for ASEAN 2015” has warned that Thai people’s English is not good enough and that lack of English will leave the nation out in the cold, a sentiment that is widely circulating in media.
As one of the leading educational institutions of the country, Suranaree University of Technology’s School of Foreign Languages wants to help increase English language proficiency of Thai citizens, be they school-based or non school-based alike, by organising language improvement activities through an English camp with the stated purposes below:
     • To enable the campers to make use of the English language for communication
     • To raise the campers’ awareness about the importance of the English language
     • To promote the campers’ teamwork skills and spirit
     • To encourage the campers to take part in the group activities
     • To give the campers an opportunity to carry out the assigned tasks by using English
     • To promote the campers’ attitudes towards English
     • To raise the campers’ awareness of language learning strategies
     • To prepare the campers for ASEAN society

We have experienced language teachers both Thais and non-Thais to organise activities to serve your needs. For more information, please contact the School of Foreign Languages, Suranaree University of Technology, Muang Nakhon Ratchasima 30000 Tel: 044-224214-5 or wnannaruk@sut.ac.th
